Michiharu Nakamura Appointed by UN Secretary General to Multi-Stakeholder Group

The GFCC

On April 24, GFCC Distinguished Fellow and Counselor to the President of the Japan Science and Technology Agency, Dr. Michiharu Nakamura, was appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to a "10-member Multi-stakeholder Group." The group's stated mission is to leverage science, technology and innovation towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal objectives.


The group is designed to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM), a United Nations umbrella group focused on sustainability through STI development. Members are drawn from wide range of regions to facilitate international collaboration on promoting responsible economic development. In addition, the 10-member Multi-stakeholder Group consults a variety of stakeholders ranging from business and academic centers to youth.


Acting in an advisory role, the 10-member Multi-stakeholder Group aims to strengthen the UN’s application of SDG initiatives by contributing practical knowledge in STI fields. In this way, partnership between public service and private experience acts as a central theme of the organization.


Through a lifelong career in science and technology, Dr. Michiharu Nakamura adds great depth of expertise to the 10-member Multi-stakeholder Group. The GFCC extends congratulations to Dr. Nakamura for his continuing attention to STI development as a tool for the betterment of communities.
