Driving Innovation Out of Crisis

Driving Innovation in Times of Crisis

About This Initiative

In today's volatile world, crises are becoming increasingly frequent and severe, putting global stability and prosperity at risk. The good news is, amidst these challenges, there are opportunities for innovation that can help us emerge stronger and more resilient. Enter the Driving Innovation in Times of Crisis initiative.

Our goal is to deepen our understanding of crises, offering insights that translate into actionable recommendations. By enabling early crisis recognition, we empower businesses, governments, and organizations to not only weather turbulent times but to thrive in the face of adversity.

This is a GFCC initiative kick-started in partnership with Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

Explore Our Research

In 2023, we onboarded two researchers working in organizations within our network: John Katsos, Ph.D. candidate at Queens University Belfast, and Ailun Gu, a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Auckland.

They based their work on extensive academic research and a series of interviews with our members and fellows, which resulted in a white paper on crisis definitions and frameworks and three case studies, uncovering the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine.

The latter was written by Denys Ilnytskyy, an academic from Kyiv National Economic University.
